Rockingham County will conduct a General Reassessment for 2018 starting this September 2016. The state Tax Code of Virginia § 58.1-3252.
There shall be a general reassessment of real estate every four years. Any county which, however, has a total population of 50,000 or less may elect by majority vote of its board of supervisors to conduct its general reassessments at either five-year or six-year intervals. Rockingham County has population of nearly 78,600 people according to statistics.
There will be assessors and listers visiting the county and town properties over the next 16 months to review and list the condition of real estate and value the properties at fair market value.
There will be assessment notices sent to the owners of county properties at the end of the reassessment and public hearings will be held for any person or entity aggrieved by the assessments.
The dates of the public reassessment hearings will be on the assessments notices for anyone who wants to appeal their assessments.
The governing body of the county will appoint a (5) member Board of Equalization after the reassessment hearings and will hold hearings until the end of December 2018 for any tax payer who wants to further appeal the assessment.
