On Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., a special public hearing will be held regarding the 2024-2044 Comprehensive Plan and 2024 Stone Spring Urban Development Area Plan. This will be an opportunity to receive public comment prior to the consideration of adoption by the Rockingham County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. The public hearing will be held in the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room of the Rockingham County Administration Center, 20 East Gay Street, Harrisonburg, Virginia.
The Comprehensive Plan is a community-driven document that sets a vision and goals for the future of Rockingham County over the next 20 years. The Plan addresses topics such as land use, housing, economic growth, transportation, and natural and historic resources in the unincorporated areas of the County. The objectives and strategies articulated in the Plan will guide the County’s future direction and priorities for land use, services, and growth while protecting the rural and agricultural areas of the County.
The 2024 Stone Spring Urban Development Area (UDA) Plan is an integral component of the Comprehensive Plan. The UDA is located east of the City of Harrisonburg and encompasses approximately seven square miles. The Plan provides a blueprint for future development based on traditional town patterns, known as Traditional Neighborhood Development and includes five neighborhood focus areas defined as: Stone Port, Stone Ridge, Boyers Crossing, Massanetta Springs, and Crossroads.
The draft documents may be obtained in the office of Community Development, Rockingham County Administration Center or on the website: Comprehensive Plan and Stone Spring UDA Plan.
