[ARCHIVED] Restoration of historic Minute Books for the City of Harrisonburg is complete.

Clerk Chaz Evans-Haywood announced today that the complete restoration of the historic Minute Books for the City Council of Harrisonburg is complete. The conservation and preservation was completed by Kofile, a Kodak company based in Dallas, Texas and represented by Caskie Graphics, a Lynchburg, Virginia based company.

The project to save these historic City of Harrisonburg Records compliments the same records restored by the Clerk of Court for the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors. Clerk Chaz Evans-Haywood pursued this venture with members of the City Council after Councilman Charlie Chenault mentioned the records during a conversation in 2012.

Minute Books are the records of the governing body meetings. The two restored City Minute books are dated 1849-1852 and 1859-1873 and consist of over 700 pages total. This first City records include the March 16, 1849 meeting note to change from the Town of Harrisonburg to the City of Harrisonburg. These are priceless records to the history of this community.
The records now preserved will be imaged and will be available on our computer system for searching and viewing.
